Growing up, I was a tom boy. My favourite things were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Yes, I’m an 80’s baby), laser tag and running around play fighting with my brothers. My signature move was called the “cartwheel kick.”
I loved wearing my brothers hand-me-down clothes. I wasn’t much for all the girlie things like makeup and accessories. But any new clothes I owned were pink. Nothing but pink! My mom dressed me up as girlie as she could. I can’t blame her, I was the first – and only – girl of my generation, on both sides of my family. 10 of us. All boys, except me. And I loved being the only girl.
I also loved bugging my mom about dressing me in nothing but pink. It was our comedy routine. She would point out every photo where my dress was gasp blue!
Years later, I became much more feminine, even choosing to wear a pink dress once in awhile! I’m now a mom of two – a very active 2 yr old boy, and a sweet little 4 month old girl. My fragile sensitive princess is such a doll (completely in contrast to my tough little man) and I just can’t help myself.
EVERYTHING IS PINK!
Pink dresses, skirts, shoes. Polka dots and florals. Sparkles and sequins. Head bands and bows for her inch long hair. I even painted her nails pink before she was 1 month old.
She brings out the girlie girl in me. I love it. She’s just so beautiful. Maybe she will bug me one day about dressing her in all pink when she would rather wear her big brothers superhero tees…
But hey, what better way to honour my mom’s memory? If Grandma Deb was still on this earth, I’m sure she’d be spoiling my baby girl with the cutest little pink outfits. 💕
