Is God Real?
People have questioned the existence of God as far back as the early 1700s BC. We can’t prove God’s existence (or absence) using traditional scientific means. There is no DNA evidence. But the fact is, no matter how much “proof” is provided, there will still be an element of faith involved. You have to make your own decision after looking at the evidence available. Many people look around at the world they live in and can’t help but believe that an intelligent being is responsible. There seems to be an order to it all, an incredible complexity that is unexplainable in human terms.
As Christians, we believe in the God of the Bible. This book teaches that God created the earth and formed man and woman with his hands and breathed life into them. He created us for a purpose – to have relationship with him. He took the time to create us and he wants us to live our lives under his guidance.
God is strong and pure and wise. He can see endlessly through time and space and his love never runs out for his creation. His power is unmatched, unwavering and limited in no way that conforms to his nature. Best of all, He has the resources to fulfill the inner feelings of thirst and hunger you feel every day. God is the source of life, of happiness, of fulfillment, of purpose, of love… Without Him your life will always feel incomplete and empty. He wants to have a relationship with you that lasts forever.
Who is Jesus?
Jesus Christ was a first-century Palestinian Jew who travelled throughout Israel preaching and teaching about God, the Kingdom of God, and the way for people to come to God, have their sins forgiven, and receive eternal life. He often drew large crowds to hear his new teaching. People had never heard someone speak with authority and wisdom the way He did, often challenging the status quo. He also did miraculous things that no one could explain.
There are many references of Jesus both in the New Testament of the Bible, but also in several non-biblical sources. This leaves no doubt in the minds of virtually every historian today that the person of Jesus existed. The Bible proclaims Him to be the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. It presents Jesus as divine-God in human flesh. With these claims and the miracles that He performed, He must have either been a deranged lunatic, or the Son of God.
The best way for you to know the story of Jesus is to read it for yourself. There are four books in the Bible that focus on the life of Jesus: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They’re called Gospels, which means “good news.”
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has been traditionally called the third person of the Trinity. Christianity believes in one God existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is the way the Bible presents God.
When Jesus was nearing the time He was to die and later go back to heaven, He told His disciples that He would send another person to take His place and be present with them. That person is the Holy Spirit – God’s presence in the world and in the believer’s life. He is called the Comforter, the Counsellor, the Advocate.
When you experience salvation the Holy Spirit comes to live within you. He is the presence of God in the believer’s life. He continues Jesus’ teaching and reminds us of what Jesus taught. He helps us understand the Bible. He guides us. He glorifies Jesus.
On the wider scene, the Holy Spirit empowers believers and convicts the world of its sin, God’s righteousness and the coming judgment.
How Do I Become A Follower Of Jesus?
Recognize Your Need
God loves you, has your best interests in mind, and has invited you to become a child of God.
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life
John 3:16
Admit You Are A Sinner
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard
Romans 3:23
Believe In Jesus Christ
He died to pay the penalty for your sins.
Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
Accept God’s Gift
He is offering you the free gift of salvation and eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord
Romans 6:23
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:12
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dea, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
Romans 10:13
Make A Commitment
Pray to receive Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord. You can pray a prayer of your own or you can use this one:
Father in heaven, I recognize that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I turn from my sin and everything I know is wrong in my life. Please forgive me for all my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died for my sins. Thank you. I now receive Jesus as my personal Saviour and Lord. I ask you to come into my heart by your Holy Spirit and give me eternal life. I commit my life fully to you. I want to live for you the rest of my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
There is nothing magic in the words of the prayer. They simply reflect the attitude of your heart and express your deliberate decision to receive Christ as your Saviour and Lord. The important thing is your deliberate decision.
Be Assured
Having committed your life to Jesus, you can now be assured that God did His part and that you are now a Christian – a child of God.
I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
John 5:24
But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.
John 20-31
